Cities Over Seas Starts Off Strong!

Last night Indie/Electronic band “Cities Over Seas” performed their first show at the Hurley’s Night Club on the SUNY Potsdam campus in Potsdam, NY. The band is about to release their first album, National Phantom, through the on-campus record label Madstop. Alex Butler, the bass player for Cities, engineered the album himself.

Having heard the final tracks already, I must say that this will most certainly be an album worth picking up. It’s mellow and full of dynamics and emotion. Vocalist/Guitarist Doug Campbell brings a very laid-back vocal styling to the band. His voice is quite similar to that of Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and Postal Service.

The live performance was tight to say the least. The five members looked relatively at home on the stage as they played the show with pre-programmed electronic backing tracks. Many of the students in attendance at the show commented that this was the best sounding shows they’d heard in Hurley’s. I think that there were more people at the show last night than I’d ever seen for a concert with a one band on the bill in Hurley’s.
